The following terms and conditions are applicable to:
1. Standard Visitor Tickets
2. Group Entry Tickets and advance booked groups
3. Guided Tower Tour Tickets
4. All visitors to Bath Abbey at all times.
By visiting Bath Abbey, you accept the following terms and conditions and agree to abide by the rules and instructions of the staff at all time
1. Ticket Pricing
The price of Bath Abbey entry tickets is listed on the website, available here. Prices are subject to change at any time by the organisation to reflect increasing costs of running the Abbey.
The Family discount of 10% is applicable to a bundle of tickets consisting of up to two full price adults and up to four accompanying children. Any additional adults and students are not included in the discount. Where possible, Bath Abbey staff will help work out the best price combination of tickets for your group.
2. Ticket Validity
All tickets are valid only for the date of booking or date of purchase if purchased on site. Tickets cannot be transferred or reused. Tickets must be presented upon request.
Bath Abbey staff reserve the right to refuse entry for whatever reason. Being in possession of a pre-paid ticket, advance group booking confirmation or local Discovery Card does not give exemption from this.
3. Refund and Cancellation Policy
Refunds for standard entry tickets are not provided for unused tickets or cancellations by the ticket holder.
Refunds for Tower Tour tickets are available for cancellations made by Bath Abbey, e.g. in scenarios of extreme bad weather or staffing capacity. Visitors may request a full refund or a reschedule of their tower tour if slots are available.
In the event Bath Abbey is unable to open to visitors due to unforeseen circumstances, refunds or rescheduling options will be offered at the Abbey’s discretion.
On occasions where a refund is given, refunds will only be made to the person who originally made the purchase through the method of payment they originally used.
4. Opening Hours
Bath Abbey general visiting opening hours will be made available on the website here when possible. Bath Abbey is a working church, due to the services and nature of events we provide, the Abbey is subject to closure with little to no advance notice. Bath Abbey holds the right to close to all visitors at any time.
The closing time of the Discovery Centre is prior to the closing time of the Abbey. Purchased standard entry and tower tour tickets are valid for entry to the Discovery Centre during the opening hours of the Discovery Centre which are determined by the Abbey staff each day. Opening hours of the Discovery Centre will be visible on the website where possible. The Abbey reserves the right to close the Discovery Centre early on any day.
5. Behaviour and Conduct
Visitors are required to behave respectfully towards all Abbey staff, volunteers and other visitors. Any visitors causing insult or harm to staff, volunteers, visitors or Abbey materials will be asked to leave. In scenarios when visitors are asked to leave, refunds are not offered unless at the discretion of the supervisor.
The Abbey follows a standard operating procedure when handling any instances of abusive behaviour.
No trading or fundraising is permitted inside Bath Abbey unless prior consent is obtained by Abbey Leadership staff. Proof of approval will be required.
6. Child Supervision
Visitors under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
The minimum age for tower tours is 5 years of age. Children between the age of 5 and 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the duration of the tour and while inside the Abbey.
7. Accessibility and Safety
Bath Abbey strives to provide accessible facilities for all visitors. Some areas, such as the tower have limited access due to their structure and age. Where possible, lift and ramp access is provided on the ground floor and lower levels of the Abbey. The Discovery Centre is fully accessible for wheelchair users. There is an accessible, baby change and Changing Places toilet facility available during standard visiting hours. Due to safety restrictions, access to toilets is not guaranteed at large events or outside of standard visiting and Abbey shop opening hours.
The Tower Tour involves climbing steep stairs and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility, vertigo or certain medical conditions. Footwear will be checked on arrival and if deemed unsuitable by staff, entry to the Tower Tour will be refused and a refund of the purchased ticket will be offered. Participants join Tower Tours at their own risk and staff can deny access to a Tower Tour if safety concerns arise. Specific terms and conditions for the Tower Tour are available here, by purchasing a Tower Tour ticket you are consenting to having read and agreed to these terms and conditions.
8. Liability
Bath Abbey is not responsible for any lost belongings, damage or injury sustained during a visit if the cause is due to the negligence of the individual or the unforeseeable actions of other visitors or a third party. Visitors are requested and responsible for keeping their personal belongings near their persons at all times.
9. Photography and Filming
Photography for personal use is permitted during standard opening hours unless advised otherwise. Photography can be prohibited during opening hours in the event of a choir rehearsal or any other performance or event. Signage will be displayed to visitors and any visitors taking photographs during a prohibited period may be asked to leave. Filming of choir members is prohibited at all times.
Photography and filming for commercial use requires prior approval by Bath Abbey staff. Proof of approval will be required, and filming will be denied unless proof is presented on request.
The use of tripods and filming equipment is subject to approval by the discretion of Bath Abbey staff. We may ask you to move or put away large filming equipment if we perceive it to be impacting the function of the Abbey in any way, or believe it is creating a risk or hazard to other visitors and staff.
The use of drones is prohibited inside the Abbey. If there is any use of drones inside, the operator will be asked to stop use of their device, failure to do so will result in the operator being asked to leave. Bath Abbey do not own the public spaces outside the Abbey and therefore cannot approve any requests for filming in the airspace above and around the building.
10. Changes and Closures
Bath Abbey reserves the right to alter opening hours, ticket prices, or access to certain areas within the Abbey without prior notice due to operational need, maintenance, or safety concerns.
Bath Abbey is not liable for closure, cancellation, or delays caused by events beyond its control, such as extreme weather, strikes, or government restrictions.
11. Acceptance of Terms
By purchasing a ticket, you agree to these terms and conditions. Failure to comply with these terms may result in denied entry or removal from the building without a refund.
